Green and Away through a pinhole

These images have been created using pinhole cameras made on site using old tin cans and recycled containers from the kitchen.

They were then positioned around site earlier this month and left to develop over a number of weeks. The tiny amount of light that enters the camera through the pinhole creates an image on the photo developing paper that is secured inside. The container is made as light proof and watertight as possible.

The resulting image is dependent on a number of factors and always creates unexpected and unique results. Once the paper is removed from the camera the image needs to be inverted and so is digitally scanned to create the picture displayed here.

This image was left for 10 days to develop.
It was attached to the wooden post next to the fishermen’s car park facing the delegates’ camping field. The sun can be seen rising in the far right and slight condensation collected in the camera can also be seen in the middle of the image.

The camera was positioned on the post of the light industrial area looking towards the tea tent and village green. The dark area at the top of the image is due to the curling of the photo developing paper within the camera.

The camera for this image was positioned high on a post facing the artist in residence tent and the back of the light industrial area. When the camera was opened there was a lot of water that had collected in it creating this distorted and beautifully abstract image.

This image was left to develop for 7 days.
The camera was positioned within a small tree facing the shady dome and the Falcon. The sun can also be seen setting in the far right of this image. It is interesting to note the fish-eye effect on this image due to the concave nature of the pin hole camera container.

This camera was positioned to the small tree outside the kitchen facing the washing-up area and tea tent.  The two tables seen horizontally in the foreground of the image changed positions towards the end of the developing period so have been captured twice.

The camera was positioned within the woodland looking towards the back of the light industrial area.  The image is quite abstract but the canvases of the tents can just about be seen.

This camera was attached to the far post of the washing line facing towards the smoking area and bamboo field. The sun can be seen rising as a light line from the right of the image to the top central point.

The camera was attached to the wind turbine facing towards the grass sofa and showers. The canvas roof of the bar can also be seen. The image has been cropped due to dampness within the camera making the photo developing paper curl.

This camera was also attached to the wind turbine but was facing towards the delegates’ camping area. Again the fish-eye effect can be seen here due to the concave nature of the camera container.

The camera used for this image was attached to the top of the showers facing towards the bamboo field. This has really captured the rising sun from right to top centre. As well as the rising movement of the light, you can observe the change in height of the sun’s path. This change of height through the year causes the change of the seasons.

The camera for this image was positioned on the post looking into the crew area. The image is quite hard to make out but the colours and shapes create a beautiful abstract picture. This could be due to the short exposure time and it being positioned in a shady spot.

The camera used for this image was positioned overlooking the fishermen’s reservoir near the entrance of the site. The white spots are slight water marks on the photo developing paper.
